YOKOHAMA Macau GP 2012 Race Report Vol. 2

The 59th Macau Grand Prix was held day 2, at 16th November. Practice and Qualifying was held under cloudy skies for all categories.

Felix RROSENQVIST (Dallara-Mercedes), who was 4th in the Euro F3 series, topped the times of the SJM F3 Macau Grand Prix second practice session on 2:13.958. However, Alex LYNN (Dallara-Mercedes) 4th in this year’s British F3 int’l Series was fastest of the second qualifying with a time of 2:13.122. He snatched pole position for the qualification race with a scorching lap time, which was quicker than the top time position of the first qualifying of Antonio DA COSTA (Dallara-Volkswagen).

On WTCC, the series leader, Robert HUFF (Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T) was sparkling through the day. HUFF set the fastest lap in Free Practice 1 and 2, and he kept the momentum into qualifying, topping on the leader board once again. Daryl O’Young (Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T), the local Hong Kong driver, marked the top in YOKOHAMA Trophy, with the overall 6th position.

The drivers on the Hotel Fortuna MAC / HKG inter-port race were finding it hard to survive on course in qualifying. Red flags were waved twice in the 30 minutes session. Macau driver Chou Keng Kuan (Honda Integra) won the pole position with 2:46.924.

Chinese top driver Han HAN (Subaru Impreza), who is a famous young author, was the best result among YOKOHAMA users on 3rd. He had a car problem in the practice session yesterday, and the support staff jumped on a plane to bring the part from Japan. Then Han HAN got his best performance.

Asia’s top drivers are competing in CTM Macau Touring Car Cup. Hong Kong driver Paul POON (Chevrolet Lacetti) set the fastest time with 2:40.563 in qualifying. 2nd fastest was another Hong Kong driver Samson FUNG (Chevrolet Lacetti) just 0.287 seconds behind. Lucas Di GRASSI, on YOKOHAMA, in his Ferrari 458 GT3 got the 1st position with 2:22.305 in qualifying-1 for the CITY OF DREAMS MACAU GT CUP. The series leader of the GT ASIA, MOK Weng Sun (Ferrari 458 GT3) was the best-performing of the series held on YOKOHAMA tyres, recording 6th overall.
