Tokyo Motor Show 2011

The YOKOHAMA Rubber Co., Ltd., will participate in the Tokyo Motor Show 2011, which runs from 3 November to 11 December 2011, at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto-ku, Tokyo. To increase the profile of its new environmentally and socially friendly BluEarth eco tyre concept, YOKOHAMA Rubber will present some of the ideas, technology and activities being undertaken.

Other tyres, based on the BluEarth concept, will be exhibited to demonstrate product development. Also in this area, the company’s latest environmental technology will be described, including the AIRTEXT Advanced liner, which substantially mitigates natural air leakage.

YOKOHAMA’s display will illustrate how it finds a middle ground between a car being fun to drive as well as environmentally friendly. Alongside this, the research and development of tyres for electric vehicles (EV) will be exhibited. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which YOKOHAMA Rubber has taken part in using EV racing cars, will be demonstrated, in order to indicate the development of the EV tyres.

Fitted with BluEarth prototype tyres, YOKOHAMA Rubber’s team, Team Yokohama EV Challenge, accomplished the outstanding feat of substantially bettering the previous all-time record for an EV; the second year in a row it has done so. The EV car that participated will be displayed at the booth.

The concept tyre developed as the company's future tyre design will also be revealed. Employing a design inspired by phenomena existing in the natural environment, it was released at the Good Design Expo in August 2011 and met with a very positive response from the visitors.

Launched in 1954, the Tokyo Motor Show is one of five major international motor shows. This year, 176 exhibitors from twelve countries are expected to participate. The previous show, in 2009, saw 614,000 visitors attend.
