WTCC Star Driver

Yvan Muller secured his third FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) title in four years in Macau on 20 November 2011, with a pair of solid podium finishes. The Frenchman fought off a strong challenge from his Chevrolet team-mate, Rob Huff, to claim the championship.

His weekend in Macau was a spectacularly measured effort. Showing his experience in a mature drive, Muller was content to follow Huff home. Never putting his car in danger of retirement, the 42-year-old finished second and third, which was all he needed to win the title.

Over his six years in the series, Muller has taken 21 race victories and 43 other podium finishes. This incredible consistency was reflected in his 2011 season, where Muller was on the podium in all except five races, a higher podium appearance tally than any other driver.

Although Muller didn’t win a race until eight rounds in, he made up for it with a spectacular run of form mid-season as he took five wins out of six races to set his charge back in motion.

As the only driver to win the WTCC drivers’ title for two different manufacturers, he has established a reputation as an astoundingly fast, reliable driver.
