German Formula 3 - 2010 Sachsenring

10 May 10

Tom Dillmann charged to the top of the ATS Formula 3 Cup standings after a double victory at Sachsenring, Germany, on 8-9 May 2010.

The German HS Technik Motorsport driver secured pole position for race one with a fastest lap of 1:13.348 around the technically demanding circuit. Lining up next to him on the grid was rookie driver Felix Rosenqvist, completing the second row for Performance Racing, while Stef Dusseldorp and Gary Hauser claimed third and fourth-place starts.

Dillmann led from the start of the race, pulling away from the pursing pack to claim a lights-to-chequered flag victory. Meanwhile, in second place, 18-year-old Rosenqvist was defending hard from the more experience Dusseldorp. Rosenqvist managed to hold on to his position to claim second place, his first podium within the ATS Formula 3 Cup, with Dusseldorp behind him. Dusseldorp’s Van Amersfoort Racing team-mate Daniel Abt crossed the line in fourth, with Kevin Magnussen fifth, having improved his position by three places from an eighth-place start.

During the second qualifying session it was Dusseldorp that secured first place on the grid with a fastest lap of 1:13.482, but the Dutch driver fell out of contention, allowing Dillmann to claim his second victory of the weekend. Abt crossed the line second from a fourth-place start, while Magnussen had another strong race, climbing from sixth to complete the podium.

With two victories and two additional points for pole position and the fastest lap in race one, French driver Dillmann has launched himself into the lead of the drivers’ standings, three points ahead of Abt, with Magnussen third, trailing second place by just one point.

The next round of the ATS Formula 3 Cup takes place on 29-30 May 2010 at the Hockenheimring, Germany.
