BMW claimed an impressive one-two finish in round 16 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), held in Oschersleben, Germany, on 4-5 September 2010. Andy Priaulx claimed the round victory ahead of team-mate Augusto Farfus, collecting 25 important points for the Drivers’ Championship.
Farfus dominated Saturday’s qualifying session claiming his second pole position of the season, setting a fastest lap time of 1:38.070 ahead of Chevrolet’s Rob Huff. Meanwhile Andy Priaulx qualified third for the first race of the weekend with a fastest lap time of 1:38.186.
Starting from pole, Brazilian Farfus took the lead of the race but not for long, as Huff managed to pass him before the end of lap one. The British driver led the race until lap four when he was issued with a drive-through penalty for an incident at the start, which turned into a black flag as the Brit did not come into the pits within three laps. Menu, who was running second, took the lead to claim his first win of the season, followed by Farfus and Menu’s team-mate Yvan Muller.
From third on the grid, Priaulx had a strong start in race two and managed to overtake both Norbert Michelisz and Michel Nykjær before the first corner. From seventh at the start, Farfus battled his way through the field to secure a second-place finish, followed by Menu to complete the podium.
With three race weekends left on the calendar, Muller still leads the Drivers’ Standings with 229 points, 11 points ahead of Priaulx. SEAT’s Gabriele Tarquini completes the top three with 196 points. Chevrolet dominates the Teams’ Standing with 508 points, ahead of BMW with 453 and SEAT Customers Technology with 447.
